Homework - 31st August 2010

As a follow-up to our lesson on Tuesday, you should compile some key notes on Chapter 3 - In this chapter we are presented with a particularly clever depiction of a grand party straight out of 1920s America. Many themes are raised through the course of the chapter. What ideas are presented to the reader by Fitzgerald about the following themes:

-‘Conspicuous Consumption’
-American Ideals / The American Dream
-Vision, Insight and Perspective
-Purpose and Purposelessness

Also, you should create a bullet-point plan of a commentary on Extract 3, using the following guide questions to assist you:

1) How is the ‘middle-aged man’ representative of people in 1920s America?
2) How does the structure of the passage provide ridicule and mockery?

Bullet-Point Commentary - due Monday, 6th September.

Hope you're all enjoying your day off school.
